Silver Award for Antimicrobial Stewardship Program (2024)
Awarded by the California Department of Public Health (CDPH), Healthcare-Associated Infections (HAI) Program, this honor is established on criteria that measures the robustness of the antimicrobial stewardship efforts. AVMC has been demonstrated to improve patient outcomes and reduce adverse consequences, including combatting antimicrobial resistance (AR) and mitigating Clostridioides difficile infections.

RestorixHealth® Patient Satisfaction Award (2022)
AVMC’s Outpatient Wound Care Center is a proud recipient of the RestorixHealth® Patient Satisfaction award. Recipients of this award have demonstrated superior performance in overall patient satisfaction results with a score of 96% or higher.
HIMSS Electronic Medical Record Adoption Model (EMRAM) Stage 7 Validation (2022)
AVMC achieved HIMSS EMRAM Stage 7; the HIMSS EMRAM is used to assess EMR implementation and adoption of the technology for hospitals and health systems globally, guiding the data-driven advancement of care in a health system’s acute or inpatient care facilities through EMR technology. The medical center uses several tools for its antimicrobial stewardship program allowing pharmacists to advance the appropriate use of antimicrobials to support their goals of reducing overall antibiotic use for non-bacterial diseases, optimizing antibiotic use for bacterial infections, and improving patient outcomes while eliminating unnecessary patient-care costs. Leveraging information digitally enhances patient safety and satisfaction by reducing errors in care, length of stay for patients, and duplicated care orders.
Baby-Friendly Designated Hospital (2021)
This distinguished honor demonstrates that Antelope Valley Medical Center is adhering to the highest standards of care for breastfeeding mothers and their babies. These standards are built on the Ten Steps to Successful Breastfeeding, a set of evidence-based practices recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) for optimal infant feeding support in the precious first days of a newborn’s life.
Gold Performance Achievement Award – Chest Pain – MI Registry (2021)
Antelope Valley Medical Center is honored to be a recipient of the 2021 Gold Performance Achievement Award from the American College of Cardiology for participating in the Chest Pain--MI Registry. AVMC demonstrated sustained achievement of performance measures in treating acute myocardial infarction patients through the implementation of American College of Cardiology/American Heart Association Guideline Recommendations.
OneLegacy HRSA Platinum Award (2021)
Recognized by the Health Resources & Services Administration (HRSA), AVMC has earned national recognition for the OneLegacy Platinum Award, in its efforts to increase organ, eye, and tissue donor registrations across the state through the Workplace Partnership for Life (WPFL) Hospital Organ Donation Campaign.
Honor Roll Award for Superior Performance in Opioid Care (2021)
To receive this certificate, a California hospital scored ≥ 27 points on the 2021 Opioid Management Hospital Self-Assessment and scored at least one point in each of the following four domains of care: safe and effective opioid use, identifying and treating patients with opioid use disorder, overdose prevention, and applying cross-cutting opioid management best practices.
Opioid Care Honor Roll Recognition
To receive this certificate, a California hospital scored ≥ 5 points higher on the 2021 Opioid Management Hospital Self-Assessment than the hospital’s score in 2020.
City of Lancaster recognition (2021)
Antelope Valley Medical Center was recognized by the City of Lancaster City Council for the hospital’s participation in the 2021 COVID-19 mass vaccination site, where over 60,000 vaccines were administered to local residents.
National Comprehensive Community Cancer Center Accredited (2020)
The Antelope Valley Medical Center (AVMC) cancer program earned a three-year accreditation from the Commission on Cancer (CoC), a multidisciplinary program of the American College of Surgeons. AVMC is the only hospital in the area to receive this accreditation. To earn CoC accreditation, a cancer program must meet 34 specific quality care standards, be re-evaluated every three years, and by maintaining excellence in the delivery of comprehensive patient-centered care.
Emergency Department Approved for Pediatrics
Antelope Valley Medical Center is the only hospital in the area to be approved by the County of Los Angeles as an Emergency Department Approved for Pediatrics (EDAP). To qualify as an EDAP, a hospital emergency department must meet specific criteria, including requirements for pediatric equipment, physician coverage and ongoing pediatric education.
Designated Comprehensive Stroke Center
AVMC is approved by the County of Los Angeles as a Comprehensive Stroke Center. This designation signifies that AVMC has the equipment, infrastructure, staff, and training programs needed to provide care based on the most current research and standards to foster better outcomes for patients with stroke.
California Children’s Services Approved Hospital
Our Pediatric Department is a California Children’s Services (CCS) Approved Hospital, which means the department meets the standards and requirements for the state program. AVMC is the only hospital in the area with this designation.
Advanced Primary Stroke Center Certification (2019)
AVMC received Advanced Primary Stroke Center Certification from The Joint Commission and the Los Angeles County Emergency Medical Services Agency. This designation signifies that AVMC has the equipment, infrastructure, staff, and training programs needed to quickly diagnose and treat patients presenting with acute stroke.
Certified Chest Pain Center(2018)
Antelope Valley Medical Center received full Chest Pain Center Accreditation from the American College of Cardiology. The accreditation, initially earned in 2015, reaffirms the hospital’s comprehensive Institute for Heart & Vascular Care (IHVC) as the leading source of cardiovascular care in the Antelope Valley.
Breast Milk Depot (2017)
Antelope Valley Medical Center (AVMC) has been named a designated Breast Milk Depot by BreastfeedLA, a nonprofit breastfeeding advocacy organization in Los Angeles. AVMC is one of only two designated milk collection sites in the county. The designation means breastfeeding moms can now drop off breast milk at AVMC; it will then be processed, pasteurized and distributed to infants in need of this vital resource.
Recognized by The Joint Commission as a “Top Performer” (2016)
Antelope Valley Medical Center was recognized as a Top Performer on Key Quality Measures® by The Joint Commission, the leading accreditor of healthcare organizations in the United States. AVMC was the only hospital in the Antelope Valley to achieve this honor. The Top Performer program recognizes hospitals for outstanding performance on evidence-based interventions that increase the chances of healthy outcomes for patients with certain conditions. AVMC was commended for its performance in five Key Quality Measures: heart attack, heart failure, pneumonia, surgical care and perinatal care.
Certified Chest Pain Center (2015)
Antelope Valley Medical Center (AVMC) received full Chest Pain Center (CPC) Accreditation from the Society of Cardiovascular Patient Care (SCPC), making it the first facility in the Antelope Valley to achieve this designation. This comes just one year after opening the comprehensive Institute for Heart & Vascular Care (IHVC) located on the hospital campus.
Certified Healthcare District (2015)
The Antelope Valley Healthcare District (AVHD) was one of the first districts in the state to be named a Certified Healthcare District by the Association of California Healthcare Districts (ACHD). This prestigious designation certifies that the AVHD has demonstrated, among other things, best practices in governance and is conducting business in a transparent manner.
Health Services Advisory Group Award (2014)
Antelope Valley Medical Center was recognized by the HSAG, a Quality Improvement Organization for the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), for its dedication to patient safety. The recognition highlights the hospital’s success in reducing healthcare-associated infections.
Recognition from U.S. Department of Health and Human Services for Excellence in Organ Donation (2012)
Antelope Valley Medical Center was one of 22 hospitals throughout the seven-county greater Los Angeles area that were recognized by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) with a Medal of Honor for meeting the standards for excellence in organ donation set by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). AVMC was recognized with a Silver Medal of Honor in 2012 for meeting or exceeding two out of three national goals during the 24-month measurement period.
Approved STEMI Receiving Center (2007)
AVMC was named a STEMI (ST Elevation Myocardial Infarction) Receiving Center. One of only 34 such hospitals in Los Angeles County, this certification means that AVMC has the training, equipment and processes in place to immediately treat patients experiencing acute cardiac myocardial infarction (heart attack). This results in an earlier definitive diagnosis and treatment resulting in improved outcomes.
