Fall Foods to Eat During Pregnancy
As autumn sets in, it's important to remember that our diets should reflect seasonal changes. Just as we swap our wardrobe for warmer clothes, we should also be swapping out some of our go-to foods for autumnal superfoods.
An autumn diet for expecting mothers should include plenty of healthy and nutrient-rich sustenances. Here are three prenatal superfoods to add to your autumn diet:
1. Squash
Squash is an excellent source of vitamins A and C, essential for a developing baby. Vitamin A helps with vision and immune function, while vitamin C is necessary for tissue growth and repair.
Squash is also rich in beta-carotene, which helps keep the immune system strong — especially during the fall when seasonal illnesses spread easily. Plus, they’re perfect for making into a tasty autumnal soup or pie!
2. Sweet Potatoes
Sweet potatoes are another great source of vitamins A and C and fiber. Fiber is vital for digestive health; the vitamins help with fetal development. Just like squash, sweet potatoes are also packed with beta-carotene.
3. Apples
Apples are packed with antioxidants, which can help protect the body from free radicals that can damage cells. They're also a good source of fiber, promoting digestive health and preventing common digestive issues during pregnancy.
While it's okay to eat an apple on its own, try adding them to salads, yogurt, and oatmeal or baking with them for something different! Keeping the skin on your apples allows you to take in the most nutrients — so be sure to wash them before consuming them.
