Cervical Cancer Prevention Educational Online Event

On March 5th , Antelope Valley Medical Center hosted a virtual Cervical Cancer event focused on increasing the participants knowledge and awareness of Cervical Cancer prevention. This event included a wealth of information provided by distinguished presenters Dr. de Leon (Gynecologic Oncologist from COH), Dr. Bronstein (Pediatric Infectious Disease from Kaiser) and Christy Monteith (Cancer Program Coordinator AVMA) on cervical cancer risk factors, signs and symptoms, screening and prevention. Information provided during the event regarding cervical cancer prevention included avoiding risk factors (such as smoking, obesity, lack of exercise, and radiation exposure) as well as increasing protective factors (such as getting regular physical activity, HPV vaccination, staying a healthy weight and having a healthy diet). The biggest take away from this event was that most cervical cancers (up to 99%) could be prevented by screening and HPV vaccination. Protect yourself and your loved ones from cervical cancer, schedule your pap/HPV screening test and get your HPV vaccination.
