Hospital Expands Wound Care Program

  • Posted On:

Antelope Valley Medical Center (AVMC) has partnered with RestorixHealth to bring a more extensive line of wound care capabilities to the Antelope Valley. Local residents will now have access to more innovative therapies and technologies for treating patients with chronic wound issues. Wound care refers to the treatment of ongoing wounds that can be associated with infection, diabetes, radiation, arterial or venous diseases, or post-surgical sites.

AVMC’s expanded Comprehensive Wound Healing Center features a multidisciplinary team that is specially trained to treat non-healing wounds. The wound care team takes an evidence-based approach to determine why wounds are delayed in healing, including evaluating each patient for possible health conditions of lifestyle circumstances. Individual treatment plans are developed to address the unique needs of each patient.

“Here at Antelope Valley Medical Center, we recognize the need for a comprehensive wound care center,” said John Rossfeld, AVMC chief executive officer. “Our partnership with RestorixHealth gives us access to a vast knowledgebase and unsurpassed level of experience, which means our patients will receive the highest level of care and allow them to enjoy a better quality of life.”

In early 2017 AVMC expects to add hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBO) to its treatment options. HBO promotes healing by increasing the level of oxygen in the tissue and improving the healing efficiency of a patient’s white blood cells. Therapy is administered in a hyperbaric chamber that delivers 100 percent oxygen with increased atmospheric pressure, stimulating the entire body’s natural healing responses.

AVMC’s wound care center is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. For more information, visit www.AVMC.org/Services/WoundHealingCenter or call 661-949-5522.
