Lecture Explores Sober Reality of Substance Abuse

Roger Girion, PhD, will present "The Sobering Reality of Substance Abuse" at 7 p.m. July 24 at the Antelope Valley Medical Center Community Resource Center, 44151 15th Street West in Lancaster. The free hour-long lecture will explain:
- How to recognize a substance-abuse problem.
- Commonly abused substances.
- How to talk to someone with an addiction.
- Options for treating substance abuse.
- The effect of substance abuse on individuals, their loved ones and society.
"About 22 million adults in the U.S. suffer from substance abuse, leaving a path of broken lives in its wake," said Dr. Girion. "It is my hope that people come to the presentation and learn practical and tangible steps to begin repairing their lives from the damage wrought by substance abuse."
