Mental Health Lecture: Powerful Parenting

Roger Girion, PhD, and VaJezatha Payne, LCSW, will present "Powerful Parenting" at 7 p.m. March 20 at the Antelope Valley Medical Center (AVMC) Community Resource Center, 44151 15th Street West in Lancaster. The free hour-long lecture will help parents:

• Discover how to retain their parental powers.
• Understand the differences between privileges and rights.
• Learn how to help their children make healthy life choices.
• Unearth the No. 1 way to communicate love to their kids.

"The challenge of parenting and raising adults rather than kids can cause significant stress to the average parent," said Dr. Girion, executive director of mental health services. "This presentation will be as close as you can get to an owner’s manual for raising children."
