  • Posted On:

(LANCASTER, CA – August 14, 2024) – Antelope Valley Medical Center (AVMC) is proud to announce that Christy Monteith, RN, MSN, FNP-C, Cancer Program Coordinator at AVMC, has been selected as a member of the American Cancer Society’s Los Angeles County Lung Cancer Coalition. This prestigious appointment recognizes Monteith’s dedication and contributions to the fight against lung cancer in our community; where the Antelope Valley fares worse than the rest of Los Angeles County, with a lung cancer death rate of 42% (Los Angeles County Department of Public Health, Key Indicators of Health, 2017).

Supported by the American Cancer Society, the Los Angeles County Lung Cancer Coalition is a collaborative effort aimed to enhance equitable access to lung cancer care, from screening to treatment. Alongside other healthcare professionals, Monteith’s role will focus on reducing and ideally eliminating lung cancer disparities in Los Angeles County by campaigning initiatives and funds to achieve this common goal.

“We (AVMC) are dedicated to supporting our community with not only the highest quality medical care, but with the utmost compassionate cancer care in the area,” said Edward Mirzabegian, Chief Executive Officer, Antelope Valley Medical Center. “We understand the needs of the community, and the many barriers that come with accessing care in this region. We are confident that with Christy’s expertise she will prove to be a vital member to the coalition’s efforts in bringing more equitable access to cancer care.”

Antelope Valley Medical Center’s nationally accredited Cancer program designated by the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer (CoC), delivers comprehensive patient-centered cancer care with a dedicated Oncology floor which is supported by chemotherapy competent and oncology board certified nurses.
